Cooler weather will be here before we know it. We can share in the excitement of the leaves changing and fresh powder on the slopes. Or are you looking forward to quiet evenings at home, gathered around the fireplace with your family? We can help you make sure your home and family are safe this winter by cleaning and inspecting the most iconic thing in your living room, your fireplace! Here’s some common questions we’re asked and how we can help you.
What should I do to get ready for the cold weather and burning season?
Call us! Mountain Man Fireplace & Chimney Inc, ensures safe operation of your fireplace for the burning season with an annual cleaning or a sweeping and inspection for all types of fuel: Cordwood, Natural Gas, Propane, or Pellets. This is recommended by the National Fireplace Institute, the National Fire Protection Association, and every leading hearth appliance manufacturer. We can also clean your dryer vent along with your annual sweeping. If you suspect your chimney of allowing water or snowmelt into your home, we can inspect that too!
Now is the best time of year to make sure your hearth appliance is in good working condition before the cold weather sets in.
Why are chimney sweepings and inspections so important?
For wood-burning fireplaces, inserts, and stoves, the chimney sweeping process removes soot and creosote deposits, reducing the potential for hazardous chimney fires. Which is why a sweeping is recommended annually from a Chimney Safety Institute of America Certified sweep. With a sweeping service, we also perform a Level I Inspection that looks over all readily accessible parts of your hearth appliance. Our Level I Inspection evaluates everything from the firebox and damper, the venting system, including getting on your roof and checking your cap and the exterior portions of your chimney.
Gas and pellet fueled hearth appliances require annual service too! A complete service for appliances of these fuel types is different than a chimney sweeping. Our certified technicians will not only clean the entire system, but also check for leaks and test all of the individual components.
Which fuel will save me the most money this winter?
Natural gas is the least expensive fuel, followed closely by pellet fuel. Propane is next in line and electric heat is far more expensive than the other heat sources. The cost of cordwood depends on the type of wood, and whether you are cutting it yourself or having it delivered. If you’re looking to cut down on your heating bills this winter, consider adding a gas stove to a room that is otherwise heated exclusively with electric heat. Adding a stove, or other hearth appliance to your living space can be much easier than it seems! Our National Fireplace Institute Certified Hearth Design Specialists on staff can guide you through which options are best for your home.
I want to save money and have more convenience, can you convert our appliance to gas?
Yes, this is one of our most common projects! Mountain Man Fireplace & Chimney’s expert technicians can evaluate your woodburning system and recommend a gas appliance to update or replace it and meet your heating needs. You’ll get the convenience you want with a new unit that can be controlled by a remote or run in thermostat mode for optimal comfort. We consult with you to create an attractive new design with a high-efficiency fireplace that looks great and heats your entire room. You can choose from a huge selection of styles or fronts on gas fireplaces, stoves, or inserts. Our staff will help you select your look or work with your designer or contractor.
Can we still have a wood-burning fireplace?
It’s a common misconception that new woodburning fireplaces can’t be installed anymore. However, woodburning fireplaces are allowed in the foothills communities and metro area if they have been certified by the manufacturer to meet the EPA Emissions standards. In May of 2020, the emissions standards became stricter, which is not only a win for better air quality; but also means that these less polluting fireplaces are much more efficient at heating your home. Boasting up to 80% efficiency, you can even burn a new 2020 EPA-certified woodburning fireplace on a “Red Day”! A new woodburning fireplace is the perfect centerpiece to your home with a variety of sizes, shapes, styles, and design options.
