Gas stoves
Gas stoves are freestanding hearth appliances designed to burn either natural gas or propane. They are intended to be used for supplemental heat and ambience rather than being a primary heat source.
Why Choose a gas Stove?
There’s nothing like the convenience of a gas stove. Today’s stoves offer the most realistic flame experience as well as a surprising amount of supplemental heat.

Materials
Most gas stoves are built from cast iron but some are constructed with steel. Choosing one material over another does not provide more heat, it only affects how quickly the stove heats up, the rate of heat distribution in the living space, and the rate of heat loss once burning is complete.
Steel stoves heat up quickly, distribute heat quickly, and lose heat quickly when burning is complete.
Cast iron stoves fall in between steel and soapstone stoves: they build heat, distribute heat, and lose heat at a steady rate.
All models have ceramic glass, which radiates the largest percentage of heat into the room. They also come wither with an optional blower or a built-in heat-circulating blower.
Styles
Gas stoves are available in many styles. Choose from Scandinavian-style cylindrical stoves, chunky vintage-look stoves, sleek minimalist stoves, and more. Steel stoves have either legs or pedestals. Cast iron and soapstone models are generally available on legs, and there are various color and finish options on some models.
Many stoves can be customized with a variety of finishes, different door styles, and even legs and pedestals!
The right Size for your home
The best way to quantify the size of a gas stove is by input rating in BTU per hour. A small stove has an input rating of 12,000-20,000 BTU/hour, a medium has a rating of 22,000-28,000 BTU/hour, and a large has a rating of 30,000+ BTU/hour.
Venting
Gas stoves are direct vent appliances; while direct vent may be used to refer to a stove that vents directly out the back of the appliance and terminates horizontally, direct vent actually means a single pipe has air flowing in two directions—intake air passing from the exterior to the firebox and exhaust flowing from the firebox to the exterior.
